Meet Professor Percy Smith
Jun 19, 2023Campeão United Jiu-Jitsu is led by a collective, an experienced team of Jiu-Jitsu practitioners known as our Council. Comprised of black belts with varying coaching and school ownership backgrounds. We want to introduce you to the team that is helping Campeão change jiu-jitsu.
Professor Percy Smith is the head of our self defense & LEO programs. An 18 year veteran of the Pawtucket Police Department in Pawtucket, RI, he worked as a patrolman for 12 years, served on the Special Response Team (SRT) for 6 years, and has worked in the Training Division for the last 6 years. In the Training Division he is a background investigator, firearms instructor, Taser instructor, verbal de-escalation instructor and mental health first aid instructor.
In addition to the above, he has taught defensive tactics since 2008, Master L.O.C.K.U.P. in Edged Weapon – Ground Control courses, and L.O.C.K.U.P. Arrest and Control training. Percy has been teaching at the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy (RIMPTA) for the last decade. Having been Nationally recognized as a Police Combatives instructor, Percy has become highly involved in writing the combatives curriculum for the state of Rhode Island.
This amazing resume combined with being a 1st Degree Black Belt Under Campeão United Jiu-Jitsu, a Black Belt in Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu, a Heavyweight MMA Champion, and a highly decorated NCAA Wrestler; Percy brings a wealth of knowledge and real world experience to the table.
Professor Percy joins Master Leão Teixeira and Professors Pete Jeffrey, Dylan Miller, Chad Leonhardt, Peter Beerman, & George Samuelson in providing an unrivaled pool of resources that help our Campeão United Jiu-Jitsu affiliates excel on and off the mats.
